133 entries from 36 countries
With the unprecedented number of 133 entries from 36 countries, the IOC/IAKS Award 2011 have again set a new participation record. Along with this record, the tremendous internationality of this unique international architecture prize for sports facilities is worth noting as well. In addition to numerous projects from Germany and Spain, attractive sports facilities from Canada and Africa and the Far East are also taking part. 50 projects amongst the 133 submissions are also competing for the IPC/IAKS Distinction.
The projects apply in seven categories, from “Major outdoor stadiums for competitions and events with significant spectator facilities” to “Special sports facilities for special sports disciplines, e.g. for skating/boarding or free climbing”.
Within the next days the preliminary examiners will analyze thoroughly the submitted entries. The teams of operators and designers will be contacted in informed if the submitted material is complete.
The entries received will be adjudicated by an international Jury composed of personalities from the IOC, the IPC and the IAKS from the 13th to the 15th July. The prizex will be given and presented in a detailed publication and high-grade exhibition at the 22nd IAKS Congress from the 26th to 28th October 2011.

Eligible to compete are clients/operators (operators) and architects/engineers (designers). The entry must be submitted jointly by operators and designers.
The facilities (new, extended or modernized) must have been in successful operation for at least one year. According to their use and location, they are assigned to different facility categories and assessed according to certain selection criteria.
The results of the IOC/IAKS Award will be presented at the International IAKS Congress in conjunction with the International Trade Fair for Amenity Areas, Sports and Pool Facilities (FSB) in Cologne.
This includes:
- Presentation of the IOC/IAKS Award and the IPC/IAKS Distinction during the IAKS Congress.
- Exhibition of the winning entries at the international trade fair FSB.
- Publication of details of all prize-winning entries in an extensive off-print (details of previous IOC/IAKS Awards)
