19th International IAKS Congress
with international trade fair FSB Design, Construction, Modernization and Management of Sports and Leisure Facilities Cologne, 26th to 28th October 2005
With over 450 participants from over 40 nations, this year’s Congress has improved on the 2003 Congress’ figures and set a new participation record.
Football was very much a central theme at the IAKS Congress. Under the motto of “FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany – Know-how transfer for South Africa 2010”, talks and discussions were held on the topics of “Stadium infrastructure”, “The pitch of the future”, “Football as a Sport for All – Challenges and prospects for the future” and “Development and marketing of North-Rhine/Westphalia as a football region”.
At the same time, other sports facilities were also given due attention. On the subject of “Sport in urban settings”, the infrastructure for outdoor activities, the infrastructure for indoor activities and the Public-Private Partnership model for the construction and operation at length over two days.
The Developing Nations Forum was concerned with the satisfaction of basic sports facility needs.

First Cologne Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum
In order to put the synergy effects of the three trade fairs aquanale, FSB and SOLARIA into an even stronger context, the first Cologne Swimming Pool and Wellness forum was held in 2005. The events attracted a total of over 200 participants from 12 nations.
The content of the three key topics water, warmth and light, were tailored to meet the needs of the various target groups. Discussions included subjects ranging from new trends and processes for water treatment at municipal and certification for wellness facilities.
